Do you mean lane swim? In a public swimming pool, people swim from and to all directions, which is not swimming. In swim training, we separate the pool by floaters into a few lanes, usually 8, which is what you see in a swim competition. When swimmers stay and swim inside his/her lane, we call this lane swimming.
When you swim from one end to the other end of the swimming pool, we call this one lap. After you swim from here to there for 20 times, we say you have done 20 laps.

一般大的游泳池（通常50米的）回用绳子隔成一道一道的竖线 如果你开车 你会知道道路的跑道叫lane 那么同样的idea````就叫lane swim 比较专业的咯
