The story is important for us to read不合适。

请看牛津词典对important的第一条解释：
important {speaker}, AmE {speaker} adjective

复制过来有点乱，我用的是光盘版。时间关系，没有编排。

建议改为：

It is important that we read the story.(注意从句中的动词用原型，英国用法用should加原型动词）

如果非要用the story作主语：
The story is important to us, so we should read it.

我们一般不那么用
因为it做形式主语，而to read the story才是真正的主语

你的句子是对的，不过，主句强调的是important ，你的句子强调的是story ！！

当然可以了,两句都对,只是主语不同 第一句是 IT(形式主语)和不定式(真正主语) 第二句是THE STORY .

第二种不对~~
理论上可以改为To read the story is important for us.
但不太常用
