45、Give your phone number to 5 people in your street
How rubbish are we?
Chances are we don’t know our neighbours. We know what they look like. What car they drive. But shouldn’t we have their phone number, shouldn’t they have ours?
Try this:
Go to five ‘strangers’ in your street and introduce yourself (take a cup of sugar if it helps). Offer them your phone number for use in emergencies. Stand back and watch for reaction.Chances are, it’ll feel weird at first. Don’t let that stop you though.
46、Use both sides of every piece of paper
Over 350 million trees are cut down every year for the paper that’s used in UK offices alone.
So much for the so-called paperless office which everyone was writing all-staff memos about a few years back.
But if we used both sides of the sheet - for instance by pressing the button that says “use both sides of the paper” on the photocopier - we could halve this. (Well, obviously. It doesn’t take Einstein, or even Carol Vorderman’s stupid younger brother, to work that one out.) Let’s create a culture in which we make it socially unacceptable to use only one side of the paper. Start by seeing if you can make this happen at your work.
