Education was a problem for Abraham Lincoln on the frontier of the 19 century of America. Books and paper were scarce. Young Abe was a eager reader and learner and he would walk long distances to borrow books. At night he read by the light of the fire place. Like other children of this time Abe made his own arithmetic textbook, several pages of which still exist.
Abraham Lincoln had less than a year of formal schooling. He continued studying throughout his life and educated himself. He would want to become a lawyer, a member of United States House Representatives, an outstanding writer, speaker and of course President of the United States.
