本来是选a的，很快看到了关于b的分析，觉得也不无道理。

不过仔细想一下，关于b的分析基本上是基于词义的 - 同义词转换。认为Earnings 与 profits 意义相近。

语言除了词义以外，还有语境和通常用法。

一般情况下，如果说something is built with___, 通常的用法是 profits， 次之则是benefits.

benefit这个词从词义上说是profit的同义词。都是不计较有没有付出，就是earn的过程的一种收益。所以从语境和通常用法上说，这两个词在大多数作为名词的情况下都可以互换。所以名词的复数profits与benefits在大多数情况下也完全可以互换。

也可以接 earnings, 但是earnings 并非单独出现，通常是有限定的出现。因为"Earnings”本身就是一个复数名词 plural noun，是可以单独以复数形式出现的名词，本意是工作收入，the amount of money that someone is paid for the work they do (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary）出现在something is built with__后面时，一般会说明一下该earnings是怎么样的“工作收入”。比如
