Both literal translation and free translation have their particular advantages. A good translator should base his translation strategies on three elements: function, esthetic taste and readership. He translates literally when a literal version functions better; he translates freely, when free version functions better. He can freely operate within and without regulations and rules. When he can equally observes as well as goes against the rules, he is qualified as a master translator.
