instead与instead of的区别

instead是副词，意为“代替”、“顶替”，“而是”，可理解为in place of that,在句子中的动作是被“取”的，即要去做的。如：He's tired.Let me do it instead.他累了，就让我去做吧。
instead of是短语介词，意思是“代替”，“而不是”，可理解为in place of，在句子中的动作是被“舍”的，即不去做的。如：You can take me with you instead of Mary.你可以带我去，而不带玛丽去。
另外：instead of表示“代替”时，其后接名词、代词或介词短语（作状语）。
如：Give me a pen instead of a pencil.(pencil-名词）
He will go instead of me.(me-代词）
They went there by bus instead of by plane.（by plane-介词短语）
instead of表示“而不"时，后接动名词。如：We are working hard instead of watching TV.
