Unit 1 Shopping
Shopping is a delight for both customers and shop assistants. In big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, department stores and shopping centers are open most days of the week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Some stores and supermarkets stay open even longer. Large shopping plazas are usually surrounded by spacious parking lots. Many foreign friends like to visit large souvenir shops. They are curious about traditional Chinese articles such as Chinese calligraphy, paintings, ceramics or jade carving. And sometimes they are big shoppers of these artifacts.

Unit 2 Transprot
To welcome the coming Olympic Games and people from all over the world, Beijing has been modernizing its public transportation. Public buses are the cheapest way. The most convenient way to get around the city, however,is by taxi. But perhaps the fastest way to tour the central area of the city is by subway. Aside from these means of transportation, bicycle is the most typical of Beijing. To some foreign visitors, circling through Beijing’s many narrow hutong is a fascinating experience to get to know the city.

Unit 3 Health
Many Chinese people need to know that when an English-speaking person asks you about your health, he is probably only doing so out of politeness. Unless he knows you have been ill,he is certainly not expecting a detailed medical report, and will be most surprised if you give him one. If a foreign visitor feels ill, he could go to see a doctor at a hospital. Most foreign travelers to Beijing say that the medical treatment in the city is both convenient and inexpensive.if they fall ill, they may easily find medical service at their hotel; or if they are seriously ill, they could go to the nearest hospital or community clinic. There, they will get good mediccal treatment. Health insurance is usually not required. They just pay cash for the service.
