you could also mention that meosis allows fertilisation to occur. This leads to variation, evolution, and mutatation. So the gene pool is not reduced. This is because the gametes are formed by DNA crossing which prevents 2 gametes to be identical. Also the alleles may be different so produces different characterisitcs.

Mitosis is reproduced when the DNA lines in the middle of the cell and is pulled apart by cell fibre. The new cell is idnetical to the parent cell, and is called the daughter cell. Mitosis do not allow fertilisation or mutation to happen, so gene pool is greatly reduced.
