Either English or Chinese has long history. Idioms most have the vitality in the part of a kind of language. So a large number of idioms exist in English and Chinese. It is a little bit difficult to comprehend for us since its differences of culture in different times, though we can freely use most of them. For strengthening the understanding of idioms (especially the English ones), this paper made a comparison between the Chinese idioms and the English ones with the following three points: the impact of social development upon the idioms, the extensive of the idioms and the character in short of the idioms.
