Svetlana plans a also successful finish of her career at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. There she won her first Olympic all-around medal (silver), but in the bars final she crashed and so she couldn't win the third Olympic title at this apparatus...
In autumn 2004 she declared her retirement after 10 years on top of the world, as one of the most successful gymnasts of history of modern artistic gymnastic.

In December 2004 she was elected as a vice president of the Russian Gymnastics Federation.
