1.another(=an other)和other,others都是泛指,another(=an other)是单数用作主语,宾语,定语;other,others是复数,用作定语,用作主语,宾语。

★another(=an other),别的，另一个，泛指众多中的一个，一般后面接单数名词，前面不能加定冠词。
E.G. 这本书对我而言太难了,可以给我另一本吗?
This book is too difficult for me.Will you please give me another one(=another book)
这里只讲到想要另外的一本,指许多书中的一本,没有特定要哪一本,所以是泛指.
另外another也可以用在复数名词前,但是就要译成"再,又"的意思.
E.G.Would you like another cup of tea?
你想再要一杯茶吗?
这里another意思就是在原来的基础上再加几个

★other+名词=others(别的)
E.G.Some students are listening to the radio,others(=other students) are watching TV.
一些学生在听广播,一些在看电视.

2.the other和the other(加复数名词), the others都是特指.the other是单数形式,the other(加复数名词), the others是复数形式.

★the other表示两个中的一个,常与one连用:one...the other...
E.G. I have two colour pencils,one is red ,the other is bule.
我有两支彩色铅笔,一支是红的,另一支是蓝的.
这里the other修饰单数名词.

★the other+复数名词=the others,译成其余的,相当于the rest
E.G.Some students are listening to the radio,the others(=the other students)are watching TV.
一些学生在听广播,其余的在看电视.

☆现在比较以下两句:
Some students are listening to the radio,others(=other students) are watching TV.
一些学生在听广播,一些在看电视.
Some students are listening to the radio,the others(=the other students)are watching TV.
一些学生在听广播,其余的在看电视.
前者用others(=other students),这是泛指,暗示了,除了听广播,看电视外,还可能有其他学生在做别的事;后者用the others(=the other students),暗示了除了听广播的学生外,剩下的学生都在看电视.
这就是特指用法与泛指用法的不同之处.这里只举到了复数的例子,当然单数的例子有很多,你可以自己举.
E.G.
I have two colour pencils,one is red ,the other is bule.
我有两支彩色铅笔,一支是红的,另一支是蓝的.
这里是特指,暗示除了红色笔外,剩下的那一支就是蓝笔.
I have three colour pencils,one is red,another is bule,the tired is green.
我有三支彩色铅笔,一支是红的,另一支是蓝的,还有一支是绿色的.
这里暗示了,三支笔中,有一支是蓝的,但是没有特指哪一支.

the other通常表示两者之中的“一个...另一个...”，通常构成 “one..the other”词组结构。如：I have two brothers. One is a doctor, the other is a teacher.我有两个哥哥。一个是医生，另一个是老师。另外，the other后面还可以接名词复数，表示在整体范围内剩下所有的。如：Tom is taller than the other boys in his class.汤姆比他班其他所有的男孩都高。

others相当于other+名词复数，表示“其余的”。如：There are some flowers in the park. Some are red, others are white and others are yellow.公园里有许多花，一些是红的，一些是白的，还有一些是黄的。

the others表示在一定范围内剩下所有的，后面不能再接名词。如：

There are 50 students in our class. Twenty-two are boys,the others are girls.我班有50名学生，其中22名是男生，剩下的是女生。

another表示三者或三者以上的另一个。如：

I don't like this coat.Would you please show me another one?

我不喜欢这件衣服。请再拿一件给我看看好吗？
